The Rev. Carol Westpfahl, Vicar

Carol Westpfahl became Trinity’s Vicar in August 2023. She came to Trinity after ordained ministry in Knoxville, Connecticut,  and California. A native of Washington State, Carol grew up in Seattle. The daughter of a commercial airline pilot and a schoolteacher, she developed an interest in travel, cultures, and people from an early age. She holds masters degrees in business, divinity, and Christian spirituality, and has worked in Christian ministries in Oxford, England, and Gujranwala, Pakistan. Spiritual growth and outreach are special passions of hers, and she has delighted in walking with the Trinity community in its unique setting. She enjoys exploration, natural beauty, photography, the arts, history, and learning.

Vestry

The Vestry is the elected lay leadership body of an Episcopal parish—essentially the church’s board of directors. It works alongside the rector, priest in charge, vicar, or clergy in charge, to guide the spiritual and practical life of the congregation.

The Vestry is composed of parish members elected by the congregation, typically serving three-year terms. The Vestry elects officers from among its members, including: a Senior Warden, a Junior Warden (often overseeing buildings and grounds), a Treasurer (who oversees the finances of the parish), and a Clerk (who takes minutes at vestry minutes and assists with documents).

The Vestry has several key responsibilities: Spiritual Leadership, Financial Stewardship, Property ManagementStrategic Planning, and other responsibilities.

The Vestry typically meets monthly to conduct parish business, pray together, and discuss matters affecting the congregation. While the rector has spiritual authority and leads worship and pastoral care, the Vestry handles temporal (day-to-day practical) affairs. This partnership between clergy and laity reflects the Episcopal Church’s tradition of shared governance and mutual ministry.
